Perfect Ruin Read Along - December 2014

Sunday, 23 November 2014
Hello Fellow Book Lovers,

Today I will be announcing this month's read along book of the month. And, of course, it is none other than Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano!

Here's why:

Remember that time I reviewed Wither (here: and said that "DeStefano was an okay writer. I kind of felt as if she hadn't really shown the reader what she is capable of" and "Maybe the next book will show off her writing abilities better than this one"? Well, after attempting Fever, I've decided that I may have better luck with this series.

Plus it has a very intriguing premise* that makes me think it has a bit of mystery like Pretty Little Liars originally had (think back to book one) mixed with the originality of the Chemical Garden Trilogy.

*I recommend reading the synopsis on Goodreads for the hardcover edition (shown below) and not the paperback edition because it sounds more interesting.

Floating island? Check.

Young Adult Dystopian? Check.

Murder? Check.

I think we've found ourselves a great book for this month!

The Goodreads Synopsis:

On Internment, the floating island in the clouds where 16-year-old Morgan Stockhour lives, getting too close to the edge can lead to madness. Even though Morgan's older brother, Lex, was a Jumper, Morgan vows never to end up like him. She tries her best not to mind that her life is orderly and boring, and if she ever wonders about the ground, and why it is forbidden, she takes solace in best friend Pen and her betrothed, Basil.

Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially when she meets Judas. He is the boy being blamed for the murder — betrothed to the victim — but Morgan is convinced of his innocence. Secrets lay at the heart of Internment, but nothing can prepare Morgan for what she will find — or who she will lose.
