Review of Perfect Ruin

Wednesday, 31 December 2014
Hello Fellow Book Lovers,

Welcome to my last post of 2014! It's my spoiler-free review of Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano and I hope you all enjoy!

Book:  Perfect Ruin
Author: Lauren DeStefano
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Genre: Young Adult,

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Summary: On Internment, the floating island in the clouds where 16-year-old Morgan Stockhour lives, getting too close to the edge can lead to madness. Even though Morgan's older brother, Lex, was a Jumper, Morgan vows never to end up like him. She tries her best not to mind that her life is orderly and boring, and if she ever wonders about the ground, and why it is forbidden, she takes solace in best friend Pen and her betrothed, Basil.

Then a murder, the first in a generation, rocks the city. With whispers swirling and fear on the wind, Morgan can no longer stop herself from investigating, especially when she meets Judas. He is the boy being blamed for the murder — betrothed to the victim — but Morgan is convinced of his innocence. Secrets lay at the heart of Internment, but nothing can prepare Morgan for what she will find — or who she will lose.

Review: Wow. Wow. Wow. I throughly enjoyed this book way more than I initially thought I would. It was exciting from start to finish with plenty of unexpected twists!

The protagonist, Morgan is not annoying and any small holes in the story are due to her not having the knowledge to fill them, which I liked because it made sense. I also throughly enjoyed her curiosity towards things since it did remove any of the possible information dumping that would have occurred had Morgan not seemed out the information herself.

The world and characters were both developed quite nicely and I really liked how we got glimpses here and there about how Internment isn't the best place, but also why its citizens like living there.

After reading the novel, I have come to realize that Lauren DeStefano truly has a way with words and that I am very excited to read more from her in the future!

Overall, this is definitely worth reading if you enjoy dystopians at all.

Also, warning: it will leave you begging for the sequel!
