Review of Red Queen

Sunday, 15 March 2015
Hello Fellow Book Lovers,

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is amazing. This is why.

Book: Red Queen
Author: Victoria Aveyard
Publisher: HarperCollins
Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Sci-fi, Fantasy

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Summary: The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.

To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.

Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.

But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

Review: The plot twists in this book will blow your mind. You have no idea.

And Cal is...well...perfect.

Anyway, the world building in this book is very well done. As are the character developments. I didn't know if this would be the case with this book as it had been very hyped before its release that I wasn't sure whether or not it was all a lie (like with The Hunger Games) but it (fortunately) wasn't.

Victoria Aveyard is a phenomenal writer who captivates you from page one until the end.

And can we please talk about THOSE PLOT TWISTS! I have never read plot twists like the ones in Red Queen. Usually you can sort of see them coming but I NEVER SAW CHAPTER 26 COMING! AT ALL!

And I highly doubt you will either.

It was THAT unexpected.

The hype is well deserved for this book.

As for the fantasy aspects, the powers were very X-Men-like in a sense that everything made sense and they were pretty awesome. (Oh, why can't I have superpowers?) Mare's powers were and logical while still being exciting. Basically, the explanation for them and why she had them made sense.

Overall, pick up Red Queen. I can almost guarantee you that if you like fantastical dystopians like THE PLEDGE by Kimberly Derting (a great book. FYI), then you will ADORE Red Queen.

I'm that sure.
