Book Playlists // Throne of Glass

Thursday, 28 January 2016
Remember that blogger crisis I had about the book playlists and whether or not I should do them? Well, due to the overwhelming amount of support I got from you all (seriously, you're all amazing and lovely people), I'm going to do them. Also, warning that the lyrics will somewhat suggest at spoilers.

This one's for Throne of Glass.

Lyric Breakdown:

R.I.P. 2 My Youth - The Neighbourhood

"R.I.P. to my youth
And you can call this the funeral
I'm just telling the truth
And you can play this at my funeral"

If you know anything about the plot of this book, you'll know that Celaena takes part in a competition to be the king's champion. To me at least, she underwent a fair amount of character development in The Assassin's Blade, and became a bit more mature by the end. In the beginning of ToG, we see how she's lost that she is a bit more serious and more mature.

"Might go to hell and there ain't no stopping
Might be a sinner and I might be a saint
I'd like to be proud but somehow I'm ashamed"

I think this lyric pertains more to the series as a whole and what Celaena does and how she feels.

"I was naive and hopeful and lost
Now I'm aware and driving my thoughts"

Again, this has to do with her growth from The Assassin's Blade to Throne of Glass.

The Emperor's New Clothes - Panic! At the Disco

So basically the whole song describes Celaena at the beginning of ToG perfectly. Just go listen to it.

Alive - Sia

"I'm still breathing
I'm alive"

Yes, another lyric that describes Celaena at the beginning coming out of the salt mines.

Bad Blood - Taylor Swift

"Did you have to do this
I was thinking that you could be trusted"

"Did you have to hit me where I'm weak baby I couldn't breathe
I rubbed it in so deep
Salt in the wound like you're laughing right at me"

Both lyrics pertaining to who put her in the salt mines. But no spoilers.

Blood - My Chemical Romance

"So give them blood, blood
Gallons of that stuff
Give them all that they could drink
And it'll never be enough"

Still talking about Celaena post salt mines Liran? Yep.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day

Basically the whole song because Celaena doesn't really know who to trust and just listen to the song.

Castle - Halsey

The plot the lyrics of this song describe sounds like it was taken straight out of a YA book. Trust me.

Centuries - Fall Out Boy

"You will remember me for centuries"

Celaena Sardothien = legend. Enough said.

Confident - Demi Lovato

"What's wrong with being confident?"

Only girl in a competition full of guys and she's still super confident. So basically this.

Fairly Local - Twenty One Pilots

"Is that who I truly am?
I truly don't have a chance
Tomorrow I'll keep a beat
And repeat yesterday's dance"

Last fight scene in the book. No spoilers though.

Gasoline - Halsey

"You can't wake up
This is not a dream
You're part of a machine
You are not a human being"

She's an assassin. Also, deaths that happen.

In the Woods Somewhere - Hozier

The whole song reminds me so much of a certain creature.

Sippy Cup - Melanie Martinez

"Blood still stains when the sheets are washed"

So. Much. Blood.

Hope you all enjoyed that and that you weren't too spoiled.

How To: The Love That Split The Nails

Tuesday, 26 January 2016
So recently I did my nails to match the gorgeous cover of The Love That Split The World by Emily Henry (for the second time), and I figured that since it comes out today and is AMAZING, I would try to teach you all how to do it too.

Let's get started!

What You'll Need:

- Light Pink Nail Polish
- Medium Pink Nail Polish
- Purple Magenta Nail Polish
- Light Purple Nail Polish
- Light Blue Nail Polish
- Medium Blue Nail Polish
- Dark Blue Nail Polish
- Top Coat
- Q-Tips
- Nail Polish Remover

(Note: You could do this with less polishes if you'd like. I recommend using less polishes the shorter your nails are due to nail space.)

Painting the Sunset:

***Start with bare nails***

1) Start by taking the medium blue nail polish and painting a line across the bottom of your nail (near the cuticle).
2) Using the light blue nail polish, paint a line on top of the medium blue line, making sure the two somewhat overlap.
3) Using the light purple nail polish, paint a line on top of the light blue line, making sure the two somewhat overlap.
4) Using the purple magenta nail polish, paint a line on top of the light purple line, making sure the two somewhat overlap.
5) Using the medium pink nail polish, paint a line on top of the purple magenta line, making sure the two somewhat overlap.
6) Using the light pink nail polish, paint a line on top of the medium pink line, making sure the two somewhat overlap. Make sure the line goes to the top of your nail so all the nail space is completely filled in.
7) Without letting it dry, take your top coat and begin to paint from the BOTTOM of your nail (where the blue is) to the TOP of your nail (where the pink is) in a vertical line. Start from one side of the nail and repeat this until you have blended the entire nail and all the polishes.
8) Repeat steps 1-7 for the rest of your nails.
9) Let them completely dry.

Painting the Split:

1) Taking the dark blue, make two diagonal lines beginning at the centre of the bottom of your nail (the bottom of the V) and ending at the side of your nail (making the top of the V).
2) Fill in the bottom part of the V.
3) Repeat steps 1-2 for the rest of your nails.
4) Let completely dry.

Finishing It Off:

1) Taking your top coat, paint a thin layer over your nails.
2) Let them completely dry.
3) Taking a cotton swab, dip in the nail polish remover and clean up the nails.

You're done! Congratulations!

Things To Remember:

- Let your nails COMPLETELY DRY before painting the dark blue "V". (It's a lot of nail polish so give it a good half hour or so.)
- Do not blend too much or else all the colours will become one and that's not what we want.
- I recommend doing the sunset on one hand, letting it touch dry (when it feels dry when you touch it but is not completely dry) and then doing the other hand. Or you can let it completely dry. Depends on how much time you have.

My Blogger Crisis

Thursday, 21 January 2016
I woke up this morning and was like "I want to blog today because I haven't blogged in ages." (And I've missed talking with you all. Hi. *waves*)

So that's what I'm going to do. (Sorry if the following is incoherent or something.)

Recently, I had the idea to start to do book playlists on here too (because, like, why not?) and it's made me realize two things. 1) I am the worst at following through on anything when it comes to the things I want to blog about (seriously, the ratio between ideas I've had to blog posts that have actually made it isn't that high) and 2) Experimenting on here and venturing into new territory/blogging about other things than just books is...well...scary.

What if no one likes it?

What if that no longer makes me a book blogger?

I...that is terrifying for me.

What if I lose readers and then *boom* I'm alone on the internet again?

...*stares around awkwardly into the abyss that is the internet*

So maybe I'll try this book playlist thing out soon and maybe I won't and maybe I'll blog more frequently and maybe I won't.

Maybe I should just stick to reviews...

I don't even know anymore. Is that even book-related enough?

And how do I prevent people from getting spoiled? Are disclaimers enough or should I try to full-on avoid spoilers?

And why is blogging so scary at times? *throws original content out the window*

So...there is no good way to end, um, we'll see if book playlists or anything that isn't strictly just about books or blogging ever sees the light of day.

It's 2016!

Sunday, 10 January 2016
But like ten days after New Years because I've been creatively challenged lately.

How've you all been? Good? That's good. :)

Confession time: somehow within the past few weeks, I've managed to accumulate a ton of books. (This is why book buying bans don't work for me.)

I've also filmed something cool with Jaimie over at Jaimiesam (coming soon!!!) so keep an eye out for that.

You're all insanely cool and I just wanted to thank you all again because you helped this blog grow and you're all just awesome. :) <3

(I'm so old school. Lol.)
